Peruzzi Explains 2Baba Vocal Similarity, Says It’s Purely Unintentional

Nigerian singer and songwriter Peruzzi has addressed long-standing comparisons between his voice and that of Afrobeats legend 2Baba (Innocent Idibia), clarifying that the similarity is not deliberate but purely coincidental.

In a recent interview, the DMW star acknowledged that fans have often pointed out how some of his songs remind them of 2Baba’s iconic tone and delivery. However, he explained that while he grew up listening to the music legend, he never set out to imitate his voice.

“I honestly don’t try to sound like 2Baba. I think it just happens because I listened to a lot of his music while growing up. It might have unconsciously influenced my vocal style,” Peruzzi said.

The Majesty crooner further expressed admiration for the African Queen hitmaker, calling him a pioneer whose music helped shape modern Afropop. He added that sounding like 2Baba is not something he’s ashamed of in fact, he sees it as an honor.

Social media reactions to his statement have been largely positive, with fans praising both artists for their vocal strength and musical legacy. Some even suggested a collaboration between the two could be a hit.

Peruzzi, known for his songwriting prowess and unique melodic delivery, continues to build his own path in the Nigerian music scene, despite the occasional comparisons.
