Popular Nollywood actress and social advocate, Iyabo Ojo, has made a passionate appeal to mothers across the country, urging them to confront and break ancestral and generational curses that may be affecting their families.
Speaking during a recent empowerment conference in Lagos themed “Healing the Mother Within”, Ojo emphasized the need for emotional healing, inner reflection, and intentional parenting, stressing that many women unknowingly pass down unresolved trauma to their children.
“As mothers, we are often so focused on giving love that we forget to heal ourselves,” Ojo said. “You can’t give what you don’t have. If you don’t deal with the pain and trauma passed down from generations, you risk handing it over to your children. It’s time to break the cycle.”
The actress, known for her outspokenness on family, parenting, and women’s issues, shared parts of her personal journey revealing how self-awareness, therapy, and spirituality helped her escape patterns she saw in her lineage.
Her message resonated with the audience, many of whom took to social media to applaud her for using her platform to inspire emotional wellness and family transformation.
Iyabo also encouraged women to seek professional help when necessary and to shed societal expectations that discourage vulnerability. “Breaking ancestral curses isn’t just about prayers it’s also about doing the inner work. Therapy is not taboo. Your healing is your responsibility,” she added.
The event, which featured psychologists, life coaches, and other female leaders, is part of a broader campaign aimed at promoting mental health and generational healing among Nigerian women.
Ojo’s powerful message has since sparked widespread conversations online, with hashtags like BreakTheCycle and HealTheMotherWithin gaining traction across platforms.
