Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has revealed why he stayed away from church for more than a decade, citing personal convictions and disillusionment with certain practices within religious institutions.
Speaking in a recent interview, Solade explained that his decision was not borne out of a loss of faith but a deliberate choice to step back and reflect. According to him, he became uncomfortable with what he described as the “commercialisation and politics” that had crept into many churches.
“I didn’t stop believing in God; I stopped attending church because I wasn’t at peace with what I was seeing,” he said. “The focus had shifted from spirituality to materialism, and I couldn’t continue to participate in that.”
The actor noted that his spiritual journey remained intact during the period, adding that he prayed and maintained a personal relationship with God outside the four walls of a church.
Solade’s revelation has sparked mixed reactions among fans and social media users, with some praising his honesty while others questioned his stance.
He emphasized, however, that his experience was personal and should not discourage anyone from attending church. “Everyone’s walk with God is different. Mine simply took a different route,” he added.
