Nigerian singer and songwriter Seyi Shay has revealed that Grammy-winning artist Wizkid played a major role in helping her understand and navigate the complexities of the Nigerian music industry when she began her career.
Speaking during a recent interview, Seyi Shay praised Wizkid for his humility, creativity, and willingness to offer guidance to younger artists trying to find their footing in the entertainment scene.
According to her, their friendship dates back to her early years in Nigeria, shortly after she returned from the United Kingdom to pursue music full-time.
“Wizkid was one of the first people who embraced me when I moved back. He showed me the ropes — how to relate with fans, the business side of things, and how to stay focused in an industry that can be overwhelming,” she said.
The “Right Now” crooner also described Wizkid as “a visionary who always knew where he was headed,” adding that his success has continued to inspire many artists, including herself.
Seyi Shay, who has had several hit songs and collaborations over the years, emphasized the importance of mentorship and collaboration in the entertainment industry, saying that many young artists would benefit from having experienced figures like Wizkid share their journey.
She added that her experience with Wizkid reinforced her belief in staying authentic and consistent — two traits she believes are key to longevity in music.
