R&B sensation Tems has shared candidly about the challenges she faced at the start of her music career, revealing that she was once booed and pelted with bottles while performing at a school event.
In an interview with Big Boy TV, the “Crazy Tings” star recounted the experience: “I remember performing at my school as an up-and-coming singer, expecting applause, but instead I got booed. They even threw plastic bottles at me.”

Tems noted that moments like these, while humiliating, fueled her determination to stay true to her unique sound. She explained that her early rejection was partly because she refused to rely on covers or mimic popular styles, choosing instead to pursue her own artistic vision.
Reflecting on her journey, the Grammy-winning artist said she is grateful that she stayed authentic, despite pressures to conform: “Looking back, I’m glad I didn’t compromise my style. That persistence defined my career.”

Her story serves as a reminder of the resilience required to break into the music industry, and how staying genuine can ultimately lead to success.
